Foreigners Bypass US Homes

According to information from the National Association of Realtors (NAR), foreign buyers are losing interest in purchasing US real estate, continuing a multi-year decline since 2017. Foreign purchasers bought 67,100 properties, a total of $45.3 billion worth of existing residences in the US, between April 2025 and March 2026, the second-lowest number since NAR started monitoring foreign buyer activity in 2009. The median purchase price was $465,000, which is a 19.1% drop.
According to NAR Chief Economist Lawrence Yun, “The decline in foreign home buyer activity mirrors the decline in international visitors and tourists to the United States.” “Even the US dollar’s small decline over the previous year, which gives foreigners more purchasing power, did not spur further business.” The majority of the homes were purchased by foreign buyers from the US-bordering nations of Canada and Mexico. Florida homes for sale attracted the most foreign purchasers.
