Homeowners in Hawaii and California spend the most money on housing, with Hawaii homeowners spending about 50% of their income on mortgages and home energy and California homeowners spending about 43%. Homeowners in Iowa, West Virginia, and Kansas spend less than 19% of their incomes on housing.
