LA’s ‘Thorgusen Compound’ Sold
Two of LA’s most interesting homes were designed by Robert Thorgusen and nicknamed the “Thorgusen Compound.” Located in the city’s Hollywood Hills area, the homes are set next to each other in a garden forest of mature trees and plantings by master landscape architect Garrett Eckbo. The homes, built between 1953 and ‘57 for Thorgusen and his wife, were originally known as “The Forest” and “The Jewell Box.” Thorgusen was known for his unique mid-century designs, innovative rooflines, Japanese influence, and his use of organic materials such as stone, wood, and water, complemented by concrete, steel, and glass. The neighboring homes have sold to two separate buyers for a total of $8.9 million.
